RBT exam topics
Ordered by official blueprint weight (the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), 3rd edition (2026)).
Domain C is the largest area — 19 of 75 scored questions (25%). It covers implementing reinforcement along dimensions such as magnitude and variety, conditioned reinforcers, discrete-trial teaching, naturalistic teaching, task-analysed chaining (forward, backward, total task), discrimination training, prompting with fading (errorless, least-to-most, time delay, stimulus fading), generalization, maintenance versus acquisition, shaping, and token economies.
Domain D is 14 of 75 scored questions (19%). It covers identifying the common functions of behavior (attention, escape, access to tangibles, automatic), antecedent interventions such as NCR, high-probability request sequences and demand fading, differential reinforcement (DRO, DRA, DRI, DRL, FCT), extinction and its secondary effects (burst, resurgence), punishment procedures and their side effects, and crisis or emergency procedures.
Domain A is 13 of the 75 scored RBT questions (17%). It tests whether you can implement continuous measurement (frequency, duration, latency, IRT), discontinuous measurement (partial interval, whole interval, momentary time sampling), permanent product recording, enter data and update graphs, describe behavior in observable terms, summarize data as rate or percentage, read trends, and explain why unreliable data is dangerous.
Domain F is 11 of 75 scored questions (15%). It covers the core principles behind the RBT Ethics Code (2.0) — benefit others, treat others with compassion, dignity and respect, behave with integrity — providing services only after demonstrating competence and only under ongoing supervision, recognising effective supervision, complying with requirements for boundaries, gifts, confidentiality and multiple relationships, and self-reporting.
Domain E is 10 of 75 scored questions (13%). It covers communicating team concerns to a supervisor in a timely way, seeking and prioritising clinical direction (training needs, data irregularities, chain of command), reporting variables that may affect client progress such as illness, medication or schedule changes, and writing objective session notes that meet legal, regulatory and workplace requirements.
Domain B is 8 of 75 scored questions (11%). It covers conducting preference assessments (multiple stimulus with and without replacement, paired stimulus, free operant), participating in skill assessments (curriculum-based, developmental, social skills), and participating in components of functional assessment such as descriptive assessment and functional analysis.
